CUDDLE SOFA

CUDDLE SOFA

One Week Design Studio was invited by Wallpaper* China × GANNI to design and make sofas using two "future" fabrics. The Cuddle Sofa is inspired by the masterpiece "The Kiss" by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt, in which two people lean on/hugged each other and kiss. We let the modules of the sofa lean on each other to form a comfortable piece of furniture."*GANNI "Future" Fabric (Fabric Of The Future) - aims to research, develop and invest in innovative low-carbon and preferred materials that are alternatives to traditional materials:OleatexA new generation of bio-based materials made from olive waste fibers produced by olive oil production, 60% of Biotex comes from olive waste fibers, and mixed cotton and viscose fibers. Overall, the product contains 74% recycled and natural ingredients.Celium™A bacterial cellulose leather made from bacterial cellulose produced by feeding bacteria with industrial and agricultural fruit waste. This is a unique fabric that offers a "responsible" approach and forward-looking aesthetics. Celium™ can be dyed, embossed and tanned like animal leather, and is similar to traditional fabrics. Compared with traditional furniture, it has less negative impact on the environment. Based on its biological nature, each piece of Celium™ is as unique as a fingerprint. While we were designing, we though about how to make furniture more environmentally friendly? With this question, we started the design process.Combining traditional palm fiber with "future" fabrics:In the process of repairing antique furniture, we found that palm fiber was used in a small amount in these antique furniture, but it is rarely used now because of cost considerations. We found that palm fiber is environmentally friendly, breathable, comfortable, strong and durable. Why not use it in this design? So, we started a bold attempt. Making sofa with large amount of palm fiber. This naturally echoes our theme of environmental friendliness.Be creative and make a different~
